Ron Magruder is a 40-year veteran of the restaurant and food service industry holding various senior executive positions in both the USA and Canada. Ron has actively participated on various Boards, including the University of Delaware, the University of Mississippi, the Culinary Institute of America and Buena Vista University. He has been the recipient of numerous awards in the restaurant/food industry. Ron is a frequent keynote speaker for hotel and restaurant conferences and he is involved a number of professional and civic organizations.
A member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, Ron’s charisma and knowledge of casual and family segment restaurant chains has seen him awarded virtually every industry recognition including the Multi Unit Food Service Operators - Annual Operator of the Year award.
Ron joined General Mills (now Darden Restaurants) in 1972 as part of the Red Lobster operating team and advanced rapidly through various management positions. He started as a Manager Trainee and rapidly moved up to Vice President of Operations. He was appointed Vice-President of International Development in 1981 which led to a joint venture in Japan that subsequently grew to 50 Red Lobster locations in Tokyo.
In 1982, Ron became President of Casa Gallardo Mexican Restaurants and then become President of York Steakhouse in 1983.
In 1985, Ron was named to Executive Vice President of General Mills Restaurants and President of the Olive Garden. He was appointed Senior Vice President of General Mills two years later. The International Foodservice Manufacturers Association has stated that Ron is a visionary who can provide creative solutions to difficult marketing and financial problems. His Gold Plate Award was in recognition of the role he played in the amazing growth of the Olive Garden from 4 units in 1985 to over 500 units in 1995. He was named Vice Chairman of Darden Restaurants in 1995 and appointed to the Board of Directors.
In 1995, Ron led Cracker Barrel Old Country Stores as President and Chief Operating Officer doubling its presence to nearly 400 units and acquired two additional businesses. Ron was a member of the Board of Directors. In 1999, he was appointed Chairman of the National Restaurant Association.
Following his retirement, Ron was looking forward to new challenges and embarked on a new adventure by becoming the President of Hop’s Brew pubs in 2001. In 2003, he subsequently moved on to become President of Cara USA which includes brands such as Swiss Chalet, Montana’s and Kelsey’s.
In 2007, Ron was named President and Chief Executive Officer of Imvescor Inc. (formerly known as Pizza Delight Corporation, now under the name of Imvescor Restaurant Group Inc.) which includes Pizza Delight, Mikes, Scores and Bâton Rouge restaurants. Ron oversees all Brands and is actively involved in growing the company in terms of new units and markets.
