Tony Pollard is President of the Hotel Association
of Canada. He
was born and raised in Montreal. He graduated from Concordia
University with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and from Carleton
University with a Masters of Canadian Government and International
Politics. He has 29 years of government relations experience having
served earlier in his career as Special Assistant to the federal Minister
of Transport and has held senior positions with other national business
associations. Mr. Pollard has been with the Hotel Association
of Canada since the establishment of its national
office in Ottawa in 1991.
Since assuming his present responsibility, the Hotel Association of
Canada has undergone major expansion. Mr. Pollard has overseen initiatives
advancing the hotel industry which include the Green Key Eco-Rating
Program, Experience Canada - The Partnership for Canadian Travel, Access
Canada, the Asia-Pacific Awareness and Training Program, international
development projects, the Annual Hotel Association of Canada Conference,
Trade Show and Awards Gala Dinner, HAC Marketplace and Construction
and Modernization site and various industry publications.
In 2002 Tony Pollard was recognized by Hotelier magazine as the Pinnacle
Award as the Supplier of the Year.
In addition to his responsibilities with the HAC,
Mr. Pollard serves as Vice-President, Hotels of the International
Hotel and Restaurant Association (IHRA) as well as
a member of the Board of Directors of the IHRA, the University of
Guelph, Humber College and the Canadian Tourism Human Resources Council.
He is a founding member of the Government Relations Institute of
Canada and was previously the volunteer President of the Heart and
Stroke Foundation of Ontario. He is an active
member of many committees of the Canadian Tourism Commission. He
sits on the editorial board of Hotelier Magazine.
