Dr. Bruce Cords is Vice President, Environment, Food Safety & Public Health for Ecolab Inc., the world’s leading provider of cleaning, food safety and health protection products and services. As Vice President of Environment, Food Safety & Public Health, Dr. Cords is also responsible for managing Ecolab’s external technology partnership activities. Dr. Cords has held a variety of positions within Ecolab’s Research, Development and Engineering group during his tenure with the company. Prior to joining Ecolab in 1980, he was Assistant Director of Corporate Microbiology with the Ralston Purina Company in St. Louis, Missouri.

Dr. Cords is a member of the American Society for Microbiology, the Institute of Food Technologists, the International Association of Food Protection and the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology. He serves on the Advisory Council of the University of Georgia’s Center for Food Safety, and the Food Science and Nutrition Advisory Council at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Cords also currently serves on the National Milk Federation/USDA Working Group on Foot-and-Mouth Disease, the Institute of Food Technologists Threat Assessment Group and McDonald’s Food Safety Advisory Council. In 2007, Dr. Cords was elected as a Fellow of the Institute of Food Technologists. In addition, he is a member of the Nature Conservancy, serves on the Board of Trustees of the Deep Portage Environmental Learning Center, and is a member of the Minnesota Zoo Foundation.

Dr. Cords received his Ph.D. in Food Science from the University of Minnesota. He is the author of over fifty papers, patents and lectures, including many dealing specifically with the topic of cleaning, disinfection, and food safety. Dr. Cords is a nationally recognized authority on foodborne disease and an industry expert on foodborne viruses.
