David G. Sim
David G. Sim is Manager of Water Conservation for SMART Watering Systems in Milton, Ontario.
David has over 25 years of landscape management and irrigation experience. For the past 5 years his focus has been developing and implementing strategies for the conservation of potable water in urban landscapes. David received his Honours Bachelor of Outdoor Recreation from Lakehead University in 1987 and completed his Horticulturist/Greens keeper apprenticeship becoming a Certified Journeyman in 1993. He is member of the Irrigation Association and Certified as an Irrigation Auditor. David has held positions as principal of a commercial landscape/irrigation firm, Sales Manager for a national irrigation distributor and served on the provincial Education Minister’s Apprenticeship Advisory Board. For the past 14 years he has been a professor in the Ontario Horticulturist Apprenticeship program at Sir Sanford Fleming College. He has authored numerous articles on water and horticulture issues for national and regional publications. In his capacity as a water use expert, David has consulted for provincial, city and municipal governments and speaks to Condo boards, property managers and community groups on the necessity and opportunities for potable water conservation in urban landscapes. He advocates for practical, proven technologies for rain water harvesting and irrigation water reduction. SMART Watering Systems has helped property managers save over 100 million liters of potable water and $100,000.00.
