Mr. Nowak is one of four founders of a private investment firm established to manage the assets and investments of a branch of the Thomson family. He has helped establish an investment policy that targets asset allocations through a mix of fund, co-investments and direct investments. Mr Nowak’s responsibilities include: (i) sourcing, analyzing and recommending investment opportunities to an independent Investment Committee, in areas such as private equity, real estate, energy and infrastructure, and absolute return strategies; and (ii) actively managing Westerkirk interests in completed investments by acting as a director on portfolio company boards and interacting with investee management teams.
Prior to joining Westerkirk, Mr. Nowak was a lawyer with Torys LLP in Toronto, where he practiced corporate and securities law with an emphasis on mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and corporate restructurings.
Mr. Nowak holds a B.A. from McMaster University, a M.Ed. from Niagara University, and a L.L.B from the University of Western Ontario. Mr. Nowak also holds a M.B.A. from Duke University where he graduated as a Fuqua Scholar.
