Sean J. Shannon, a hospitality industry executive with more than 20 years of experience, serves as regional vice president of operations for Carlson Hotels Worldwide’s full service hotels in the Americas, including Radisson Hotels & Resorts and Park Plaza Hotels & Resorts. In his role, Shannon is responsible for approving new franchised hotels and resorts and providing field support and operations expertise to these properties. He is responsible for Carlson hotels full service operations in the Western United States, Upper Midwest and Canada.

Prior to coming to Carlson, Shannon was the Managing Director of Illinois Hospitality, a hospitality management firm located in Moline, Ill., where he had direct operational oversight of the Radisson hotel on John Deere Commons and two other hospitality properties.

After graduating from the University of Wisconsin, he began his career in the hospitality industry in Denver, Colorado. During his hospitality career, he has also operated hotels in Denver and Boulder, CO.: Detroit, MI. and Atlanta, GA. He has been involved in numerous hotel development projects and has consulted on construction and operation of hospitality facilities.

With a strong commitment to the industry, Shannon has been active in national, state and local public affairs as well as industry organizations.

Nationally, Shannon was selected as a special delegate to the White House Conference on Travel & Tourism. As an active member of the American Hotel & Lodging Association, (AH&LA) he was appointed to the House of Delegates and an attendee in Washington, D.C. for numerous Legislative Action Summits dealing with laws and regulations that impact the tourism industry.

Previously, he served on the Board of Directors for AH&LA and was awarded with the Certified Hotel Administrator (CHA) designating achievement in education and service. In 2004, Shannon received the Most Valuable Volunteer award from the American Hotel & Lodging Association. Active with Radisson Hotels & Resorts, he served as Chairman of the Midwest Regional Marketing Committee as well as served on numerous advisory boards. Also in 2004, he was recognized as General Manager of the Year for Radisson Hotels & Resorts Worldwide.

On the state level, Shannon has served as the Chairman of the Board for the Illinois Hotel & Lodging Association. With IH&LA, he has been involved with the Governmental Affairs Committee, Hospitality Olympics Committee, Strategic Planning Committee, Executive Committee and Stars of the Industry Committee. He was awarded the Most Valuable Volunteer in 2003 for the statewide association representing more than 450 hotels and 45,000 employees. Working closely with many state organizations, he has also been on the Board of Directors for Visit Illinois.

On a local level, he has served on the Board of Directors with the Quad Cities Convention & Visitors Bureau and elected Chairman of the Board twice; has served on the Marketing Committee and on the Corporate Development Committee. With a strong belief in corporate partnerships, Shannon was active in The Illinois Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce where he served on the Board of Directors. As a member of the Quad Cities Lodging Association, he served as President as well as on the Board of Directors. Quad City Arts, a local arts organization benefited from a strong relationship, grant contributions and interaction promoting the visual and performing arts.

Additionally, with a strong commitment to developing future leaders for the industry, Shannon has been involved in Junior Achievement Job Shadow Day, a youth orientation to business program, and several partnerships with local high schools and colleges to develop internship programs. He has served on the Advisory Board for Western Illinois University, Scott Community College and Blackhawk College.
