Ayaz Kara

Mr. Kara began his business ventures at the age of 19. In 1979, he opened his first venture, the
Curry Pot, an East Indian Restaurant located on the trendy 17th Avenue in Calgary. The Curry
Pot was featured in a 1983 New York Times article that showcased the top places to visit while in
Calgary. In 1988 Mr. Kara founded Rainbow Video Rentals, which eventually merged with VHQ
Video Rentals in 1999. By 2004 Mr. Kara had taken the combined operations and expanded it to
over 65 stores across Canada. Shortly thereafter Mr. Kara and his partners sold all 65 stores to
The Movie Gallery. Between 2001 and 2004, Mr. Kara was CEO of Matrix Inventory Solutions, a
software company that developed Windows based point of sale (POS) applications for the retail
environment. Since 2003, he has focused on growing a portfolio of Subway franchises in the
Southern Alberta region. Mr. Kara recently co-founded and co-developed Park 2 Go, an
innovative valet parking service at the Calgary International Airport. In 2007 Mr., Kara and his
Partners had acquired parcel of land just north of the Calgary Airport and are currently under
construction for a 257 Hampton Inn and Homewood Suites combo, which are slated to open
this summer and later on this fall they will start construction of 268 room Full service Hilton Hotel
with a 35,000 square foot Conference Centre.
