President and Chief Executive Officer | Fortis Properties Corporation
As President and Chief Executive Officer of Fortis Properties, Nora Duke is responsible for the Company’s two operating divisions – commercial real estate and hotels. Representing $660 million in assets, Fortis Properties operates in eight Canadian provinces and has a workforce of over 2,400 employees. The portfolio includes 23 hotels, totalling 4400 rooms, operating under franchised and independent brands.
Nora has worked with the Fortis Group of Companies for 28 years in a variety of senior leadership and executive positions. She is an active participant in both industry and community initiatives. Nora is a past member of the Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG) Board of Directors, Past Chair of the IHG Canada Owners’ Committee, a board member of the Hotel Association of Canada and a member of the National Advisory Council for BOMA (Building Owners and Managers Association). Nora was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Canadian Tourism Commission in February 2014.
In addition to her industry-related activities, Nora is a board member of Newfoundland Power, the Health Care Foundation in St. John’s, Newfoundland, and the Genesis Group at Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador.
In 2010, Ms. Duke was named one of Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women by the Women’s Executive Network and in 2013, was inducted into Atlantic Business Magazine’s Top 50 CEO Hall of Fame.
Fortis Properties was named “Company of the Year” by Hotelier Magazine in 2012.
Nora holds a Masters of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) from Memorial University of Newfoundland.
