Sylvain Fortier leads the team responsible for Ivanhoé Cambridge’s portfolio of multiresidential properties and hotels. The residential portfolio consists of properties in Quebec, California, New York City and London. Mr. Fortier also oversees the implementation of the strategic directions for the Company’s hotel portfolio and the portion of the Company’s investments in real estate funds, with the goal of diversifying the portfolio.
Mr. Fortier joined the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec in 2004, as Vice President, Asset Management, at Cadim. He was then put in charge of SITQ’s office building portfolio in the United States. In August 2010, Daniel Fournier appointed him Vice President, Advisory and Real Estate Strategy. Since April 2011, he has served as President of a new entity known as Ivanhoé Cambridge Residential.
Mr. Fortier has worked in real estate for over 25 years, in both the investment and financing aspects of the industry. He began his career at London Life in the mortgage and real estate departments and then moved to Standard Life, where he held a number of different positions, including that of Regional Director. Over the years, Mr. Fortier has acquired a broad range of experience in financing and real estate management, and has earned a reputation as an astute strategist.
Actively involved in the community, Mr. Fortier supports the non-profit organization The Lighthouse, Children and Families, serving as Honorary Patron in 2012 and 2013. He was also in charge of managing Ivanhoé Cambridge’s 2012 and 2013 Centraide/United Way Campaign. In addition, Mr. Fortier co-chaired the Global Property Market Conference in Toronto in 2011 and 2012. Serving as a panellist at meetings of the Global Real Estate Institute (GRI) in New York City in 2011 and London in 2013 and 2014, he is also a member of the Pension Real Estate Association (PREA) and the National Multi Housing Council (NMHC).
Mr. Fortier has a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce from McGill University, where he majored in Finance and Real Estate.
