Randall Walford
Senior Vice-President, Business Development and General Counsel

Aviawest Resorts Inc is a rapidly growing Victoria based company with global ambitions. It develops and operates resorts that have vacation ownership and fractional components. In addition to carrying the legal portfolio, Randall shares responsibilities for expansion through acquisition, strategic alliance, and developing new products. He has been involved in creating and bringing to market thousands of lots, condos, fractionals, and timeshare interests over the past nine years in the industry. Enjoying the challenge of projects without obvious solutions, Randall is known for his creativity in sidestepping provincial red tape and tripling density by servicing a major development with sewer and water from a federal First Nations reserve and for creating a franchise program that turned hundreds of Dairyworld Foods’ unionized (Teamsters) home delivery drivers into franchised independents.

Prior to joining Aviawest, Randall’s career as a lawyer saw him argue cases successfully all the way to the Supreme Court of Canada. More recently, he practiced as a lawyer exclusively focused on development, financing, and sale of resort and recreational property. Randall draws on a varied background of working internationally for organizations including the United Nations High Commissioner For Refugees, where his work involved geo-political risk analysis, cross-cultural communications skills, and international logistics.  He is particularly interested in acquisition, franchising, and other scalable models as vehicles for expanding resort brands with vacation ownership and fractional components to meet the needs of the world’s growing middle class.

Randall writes the regular Resortlaw column for Western Canadian Resort and Investment Property magazine and is a source of comment for national radio, various newspapers and trade magazines on matters concerning the recreational property and vacation ownership industry.

Randall earned an MBA with distinction in International Management from the Thunderbird School of Global Management, where he majored in Direct Foreign Investment and International Risk Management. Prior to Thunderbird, Randall earned a Bachelor of Law degree cum laude at the University of Ottawa and studied for a Bachelor of Business Administration at the University of Prince Edward Island, where he majored in finance and accounting. His leisure pursuits include sailing, travel in developing nations, and improving his French language skills.
