Ms. Julie Canning, President and CEO of Banff Lake Louise Tourism (BLLT) resides in the internationally acclaimed resort town of Banff, Alberta, Canada. She is recognized as a dynamic tourism leader responsible for shaping the vision and strategic marketing direction for one of Canada’s most iconic destinations.

BLLT is a result focussed, member based destination marketing group committed to promoting Banff, Lake Louise and Banff National Park as a world class, year round international tourism destination. BLLT’s dual mandate is to deliver world class visitor experiences to over three million annual visitors and to create unparalleled excellence in tourism marketing and promotion. Under her leadership Banff National Park has become a ‘must see’ destination for Canadians and international travelers alike. Known as a dynamic forward thinking leader, Julie’s ability to understand and target ethnically diverse markets has been clearly shown through spearheading sales and marketing strategies spanning the globe.

Julie holds a degree in Economics and Political Science from Carleton University. She entered the tourism industry following an extensive career in sales, marketing and public relations with high-profiled Canadian financial institutions. During this time, she led and created retail strategies for a $12.5 billion operation, delivering customer-centric sales and marketing strategies while successfully growing brand engagement and subsequently brand equity.

She is a passionate tourism advocate and has been an active member of the Board of Directors for the Tourism Industry Association of Canada including holding the position of Vice Chairperson. In addition she has also participated in over a decade of National Forums for the Parks Canada Agency, is an active member of the Board of Directors for the Canadian Destination Ski Consortium and the Vice Chairperson for the Destination Marketing Association of Canada.

Julie is engaged with leading tourism partners and key industry stakeholders around the globe; including being a member of the Asia Pacific Steering Committee for the Canadian Tourism Commission. She has also been honoured by Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International by being recognized as one of the “Top 25 Most Extraordinary Minds in Sales and Marketing” for 2009 and in 2010 received the Canadian National Award for Tourism Excellence for Online Marketing Campaign of the Year.

In her personal time, Julie is an Alberta Provincial and Western Canadian regionally recognized horseback rider competing in Dressage. She also has a passion for world adventures and has successfully summited Mount Kilimanjaro, bush camped in the Serengeti, kayaked amongst the peaks of Halong Bay in Vietnam, travelled through temples in Burma and Jordan, swam with sharks on the reefs of the Galapagos, explored with the spiders in the Amazon, stood shoulder to shoulder with the Terracotta Warriors in China and heli-hiked the glaciers of Canada’s magical Rocky Mountains.
