Laurence Bernstein

Managing Partner | Protean Strategies

Laurence Bernstein has a diverse background of marketing, research and business consulting experience, culminating in his current focus on making companies and products grow by aligning business goals with customer experiences. Over a twenty five year career in advertising, marketing and consumer research, he has developed experiential brand strategies for major hotel brands, including Holiday Inns, Radisson and Fairmont. He is currently managing partner at Protean Strategies, a boutique consultancy he founded in 1998.


Over the past ten years Laurence Bernstein and Protean Strategies have become leaders in the global LGBT business strategy and consumer research field. They have designed and helped execute strategies for global brands such as ING, Wells Fargo, AllState, Cadillac, Lexus, P&G, IBM, etc. Together with Travel Gay Canada he Produced the first study of LGBT Travel Habits in Canada. He has consulted on strategic development for International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association, Travel Gay Canada, Canadian Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce and the International Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce.
Laurence graduated from the Cornell School of hotel administration and held successive management positions with Westin Hotels, before starting his career in communication and strategic marketing consulting. He founded Protean Strategies (formerly BC3 Strategies) fourteen years and has been known for innovative thinking and simple, successful, strategies ever since.
