Graeme Barrit

President | Coast Hotels & Resorts

Graeme Barrit, President of Coast Hotels & Resorts, is responsible for leading the strategic direction, management and growth of the hotel chain’s operations, which currently includes 32 properties with 4053 guest rooms in Canada plus 12 properties with 1759 guest rooms in the USA.

Barrit has more than 30 years of senior management experience in the hospitality and tourism industry. He received his first taste of the hotel business while working as a bar porter at the Southern Cross Tavern in Wellington, New Zealand in 1975.

After completing his undergraduate degree, Graeme began his career as Assistant Manager with CARA Terminal Operations in Winnipeg. Barrit has served in a variety of sales and marketing positions, including Director of Sales for Holiday Inn in Prince George, BC and Director, Sales and Marketing for Budget Rent a Car in Vancouver before moving to Coast Hotels & Resorts in 1994 as Vice President, Marketing, Sales and Reservations. Most recently, he served as Regional Director of Sales and Marketing for Fairmont Hotels & Resorts in Toronto before returning to Coast Hotels & Resorts.

Barrit is involved in several professional and volunteer activities. He is past Chair of Ballet BC and a current Board member. He also serves as the Business Co-Chair of the Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council.

Barrit holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree with a major in labour economics from the University of Manitoba, as well as a Diploma in Hotel and Restaurant Administration from Red River Community College in Winnipeg.

Coast Hotels & Resorts is a premier hotel chain on the Pacific Coast. Coast Hotels & Resorts has grown steadily since its inception in 1972. It acquired several regional properties in 1981, and grew again after being acquired in 1988 by Okabe Corporation of Tokyo. Today, Coast offers 5,816 rooms in its hotels and resorts at 44 properties, located throughout British Columbia, Alberta, Northwest Territories, the Western United States, Alaska and Hawaii.
