Investing In BC’s Future: Experts Meet To Grow $12.7 B Industry
President Of The Tourism Industry Association Of Canada To Speak At Hotel & Resort Investment Conference

Vancouver, B.C. – The 2012 Western Canadian Hotel and Resort Investment Conference is pleased to announce that President and CEO of the Tourism Industry Association of Canada, David Goldstein, will lead the closing panel discussion on resort investment at the Fairmont Waterfront Hotel on October 4th. In B.C. alone, the tourism industry generated over $12.7 billion in revenue for tourism-related businesses and contributed over $1 billion to provincial government revenues*.

Mr. Goldstein’s session is part of a two-day conference that draws top hotel/resort industry speakers, financial analysts and marketing experts together to provide industry insight, fresh ideas and new strategies for western Canadian hotels and resorts industry. The plenary session, “Barriers to Investment: The Last Resort”, moderated by Goldstein will examine whether signs exist for returning prosperity and what needs to happen to facilitate investment.

Designed for hospitality executives and those involved in resort and hotel real estate, the Conference is a candid forum for new strategies to deal with global economic uncertainties and their effect on Western-based tourism and real estate. The Conference Keynote speaker is Jason Clemens, a leading public policy advisor with the Fraser Institute, who will provide insight on the “boom – bust” patterns of the commodity-driven market of the western provinces and how this may affect recreational property and tourism.
Other sessions at the Conference include:

• Western Canadian Real Estate Market - a revealing look at the Western Canadian real estate market, the hottest market in Canada. Led by John O’Bryan, vice chairman of CBRE Ltd.
• Western Canadian Hotel Market – 2011 sales hit $1.2 billion. Who were the buyers and what was their motivation? Led by Mark Sparrow, director of hotels, western Canada, CBRE Hotels.
• Resort and Hotel Financing - Who are the major players and what are their significant investment criteria in this “post 2009” environment? Led by Gary Morrison, managing director, Capital Decisions Inc.
